I want to thank Dawn C. Chmielewski for her coverage of TrainWeb (www.trainweb.com) in the Connect section of the Sunday Orange County Register on February 22, 1998. To help those of you that are visiting TrainWeb for the first time, I've posted a brief outline of this web site below.
First, there is a minor correction to the article. The Amtrak Coast Starlight leaves Los Angeles Union Station at 9:30 A.M. rather than 9:15 A.M. as published in the article. It is possible that Dawn obtained the earlier time from one of my older travelogues when the Coast Starlight may have left earlier.
TrainWeb is divided into 4 major sections:
The #1 place that you should bookmark at TrainWeb is the What's New section. You can find that at http://www.trainweb.com/whatsnew/index.html. Every significant update to TrainWeb as well as major updates at other rail websites is posted on this page. It is updated almost daily. Thus, if you want to know if there have been any important updates at TrainWeb, just check the What's New page first!
The most popular page at TrainWeb is our Live Railroad WebCams at the Fullerton Santa Fe Depot and many other locations. There are over 46 passenger trains through this Amtrak and Metrolink station each day and they are captured live on the web at: www.RAILcams.com. There are also many BNSF freight trains through the station each day.
My own special area of interest is rail travel and you will find my own personal travelogues along with over 5000 photos of my rail travel throughout the United States posted at www.trainweb.com/travel/stevelog.htm. Click here to go there now.
If you are planning a rail trip by Amtrak yourself, you will find a great deal of information at: www.trainweb.com/travel. In that section of TrainWeb you will find travelogues and photos from myself and other rail travelers along with over 50,000 photos of scenery, equipment and accommodations. You will also find very detailed descriptions of Amtrak accommodations in that section of TrainWeb as well as information about onboard ammenities and rail travel customs.
More interesting sections of TrainWeb:
There are also many groups that promote rail travel. If you are interested in following their efforts or getting involved, take a look at: www.trainweb.com/advocate.
