- VIA Charter Lines shuttles
Amtrak passengers between the Merced station and Yosemite National
Park via State Highway 140. VIA schedules are coordinated to
meet several trains in each direction daily. In the park, a free
shuttle bus operates in the east end of the valley. There is
also a 2-hour tour via tram in the summer months. Hiking a saddle
tours are also available.

- Yosemite National Park is
open year-round. The valley is 7 miles long, and average 3/4
mile wide. Upper Yosemite Falls drops 1,430 feet in one fall,
a height equal to nine Niagaras. Lower Yosemite Falls, immediately
below, has a drop of 320 feet. Counting the cascades between,
the total drop from the crest of Yosemite Falls to the valley
floor in 2,425 feet. Other falls include Vernal Falls (317 feet),
Illilouette Falls (370 feet), Nevada Falls (594 feet), Bridalveil
Falls (620 feet) and Ribbon Falls (1,612 feet). The falls are
at their fullest in May and June, while winter snows are melting.

- The great domes and pinnacles
of Yosemite Valley--Three Brothers, El Capitan, Cathedral Spires,
North Dome and Half Dome--are as famous as the falls.
