I'm sitting here on the Coast Starlight right now as I write this (Friday, 1/12/96). I'm watching some of the most beautiful parts of the California coast glide by my window just north of Santa Barbara. This is scenery that you will never see from a car. There are no roads through here because we are going right through Vandenburg Air Force Base. On the west side of the train the surf is breaking on the shore no more than 100 feet from my window. On the east side are the missle and satellite launch towers of Vandenburg Air Force Base.
Why do I take the train? Because I enjoy it. Life is only a brief visit. There are things for us to appreciate during our brief visit. To me, this is one of them.
