Amtrak has now added two VIP sleepers to accommodate passengers traveling
aboard the inaugural trip of the Texas Eagle-California Service (departing
Chicago Friday evening February 6, 1998). As VIP guests are transferred
from regular sleeper space to the VIP sleepers, some additional sleeper
accommodations will become available for revenue sale. Passengers desiring
sleeping car space on the inaugural trip should make sleeper arrangements
as soon as possible. Contact the Amtrak office at Longview, TX
(1-800-669-8509 or 1-903-758-0902; 10am-7pm) to reserve/purchase space.
This office is handling all transfers of VIPs and may have revenue sleeper
space available for public sale before it shows up as available in the
reservation computer system.
This train will be one of the longest Texas Eagle trains in recent memory,
(approximately 15 cars and counting...) and the low off-season sleeper
fares now in effect make this an excellent opportunity for a trip.
(Companion fares, where two travel for the price of one, are also available
for round trip purchases, subject to availability.) Entertainment aboard
the train, and inaugural festivities en route make this a trip not to be
missed. Passengers traveling to San Antonio may return on train #22 Sunday
February 8. [For the inaugural trip, passengers holding sleeping car
accommodations on #22 (February 8) may board #22 and go to bed as soon as
#21 arrives in San Antonio, thus avoiding the need for hotel
accommodations.]
