SPAM and Viruses I have been getting a lot of e-mail from people complaining that they have received either spam or viruses via e-mail from people at trainweb.com, especially steve@trainweb.com and trainweb@RRmail.com. I assure you that any spam or viruses that you have received did not originate from TrainWeb. All of our systems are routinely scanned and cleaned with virus protection software that has the latest updates. Our e-mail servers are also protected against sending out unauthorized e-mail. Thus, any spam or viruses that you might have received that appear to have been sent from TrainWeb, were not. There are some unscrupulous people that have the skills to send out e-mail and make it look like it came from any e-mail address that they wish. Since TrainWeb is well known in the rail community, it makes it a perfect cover for these people. One would not expect to receive a malicious e-mail from TrainWeb and may open one of these infected e-mails without questioning it. But, to be safe, you should never open e-mail attachments from anyone, no matter how much you trust them, unless it is an attachment you are expecting. And even then, you should have virus detection software installed to remove any damaging viruses that might come unknowingly from someone you trust. I apologize for the inconvenience, but we have no control over e-mail that originates from locations outside of TrainWeb, even when they make their e-mail appear to be originating from TrainWeb. |
