Surfliners Slide Show
Have you ever been in a Surfliner railcar? These railcars made their very first revenue run on
the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner route on May 26, 2000 that runs between San Diego and San Luis Obispo
in California. Prior to the introduction of these railcars the route was known as the
Amtrak San Diegan route.
Many of the photos in the below slide show were taken inside the very first Surfliner car to be
delivered to Los Angeles before the Christening Celebration and First Revenue Run. Other photos
are of the Inaugural Celebration and the Inaugural Run. The slide shows include photos of several
Amtrak dignitaries from that time as former Amtrak President George Warrington and former
Amtrak West President Gil Mallory plus many others. In one of the photos you will see former
Amtrak President George Warrington Christening the Inaugural Amtrak Pacific Surfliner by breaking
a bottle of Champagne on the locomotive.
