This photo was taken from the extreme south end of the San Juan Capistrano station of the approach from the north. Look carefully and you can see the second set of tracks that has to merge into the mainline in order to go through the station. Between the depot platform and Los Rios Historical District, there is only enough room for one set of tracks.
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
