The Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges are for Sleeping Car Passengers only. Sleeping Car Passengers are considered to be the equivalent of First Class Passengers on airlines and these lounges are specifically for those passengers. The Portland Metropolitan Lounge is much less crowded than the one in Chicago. There was a big color television, many chairs, and phones that you could use with a calling card. The windows give just the right amount of light and you can see the trains outside the windows.
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
