The station is shared with Metrolink commuter trains. Most of the Metrolink stations just have these "bus stop" shelters as the only structure at the station. There is an entire station building for Amtrak to the side of the tracks. In the background you can see the parking lot for the station. You can park here for as many days as you want without charge when you travel by rail. Only problem is that the morning San Diegan that connects with the Coast Starlight doesn't stop at this station! I took the Metrolink all the way to Los Angeles to change over to the Coast Starlight. In the past, I would sometimes take the Metrolink just one stop to Fullerton where the San Diegan Express does stop.
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
