The Sunset Limited does not normally take this route. The route of the Crescent goes over the 6.2 mile trestle bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. The Sunset Limited was on this route only because we were detoured through Hattiesburg because a barge collision shut down the route between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisianna.
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
