Heading east, the train starts up the 4.4 mile long Huey P. Long Bridge to cross the Mississippi River. Before getting to the river, the train rises far above homes and trees. From the window, you can't see the bridge that is under the train. Thus, the train appears to be soaring through sky!
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
