F59PHI Locomotive #457 just arrived this morning
It came in on the westbound Southwest Chief. Current status: #450, #451,
#453, #454, and #458 are now all in service on the Amtrak San Diegans.
#452 is still at the factory with computer problems. The other F59PHIs are
also reported to have computer problems, but are in service anyway. My
guess is once they find a solution to the computer problem with #452, they
will probably apply it to the other F59PHIs. For more information, see

Full-length dome car back on the Amtrak San Diegans
The full-length dome car went back into service on the Amtrak San
Diegans today and was seen going northbound through Fullerton on Train
#577 at 12:36 PM. This train operates between San Diegan and Los Angeles.
It is very likely that this dome car will also be seen on southbound Train
#578 leaving Los Angeles at 1:55 PM and northbound Train #585 out of San
Diego at 5:30 PM. This dome car was probably also on Train #568 southbound
out of Los Angeles this morning at 6:10 AM. For further information, see:

F59PHI Locomotives #453 & #454 Now In Service on Amtrak San Diegans
F59PHI #453 first spotted in active service on southbound Amtrak San Diegans
Train #572 on Tuesday, September 1, 1998 at 9:02 AM going through Fullerton,
California. F59PHI #454 first spotted in active service on northbound
Amtrak San Diegan Train #575 on Tuesday, September 1, 1998 at 11:45 AM
going through Fullerton, California. This means that F59PHI #454 was
probably on southbound Amtrak San Diegan Train #568 out of Los Angeles at
6:10 AM. As reported below, #453 was delivered into Los Angeles on
Saturday, Aug 29, 1998 via the Amtrak Southwest Chief. I do not know when
F59PHI #454 was delivered. Possibly on Sunday, August 30, 1998 or Monday,
August 31, 1998. I still have no knowledge of the location of F59PHI #452
other than it has not yet appeared in the Los Angeles area.

F59PHI Locomotive #453 Arrives in Los Angeles
F59PHI #453 arrived on eastbound Amtrak Southwest Chief #3 on Saturday
morning, August 29, 1998. Train #3 had 4 Genesis engines at its head end
and the F59PHI #453 was behind these 4 engines. This is the third F59PHI
delivered to Amtrak West. #450 and #451 are already in very active use on
the Amtrak San Diegans. I don't know the present location of the locomotive
with the missing number, #452, but I am pretty sure it has not been
delivered to southern California at this time.

Goleta Amtrak Station, California
Sept 19 Goleta Station opens for all trains, except that 774 will not
start until Sept 20. all trains northbound from LAX Sept 19 will
serve Goleta. Goleta will not be a stop for the Starlight. Night of
Sept 18 will be the last night for a train to tie up at Santa Barbara.
