CPR's 2004 Holiday Train to host the return of the Moffatts

International recording artists, the Moffatts, are back together and will be performing their first live shows on Canadian Pacific Railway's Holiday Train, which will again be spreading holiday cheer in support of local food banks, this year.

The Canadian brothers, whose hits include "I'll Be There For You" and "Miss You Like Crazy", last performed together as a band in 2001. The group is currently laying down new tracks for a new album in Banff and the West Coast.

This is the sixth year that CPR's Holiday Train will be taking to the rails for food banks. This December, two freight trains, each illuminated by thousands of festive lights, will visit more than 50 Canadian communities and over 25 American locations, staging special events to raise money and support for the thousands of Canadians and Americans forced to turn to food banks. In addition to its regular evening events, the Holiday Train also will make a number of daytime stops near local schools.

CPR will donate more than $225,000 to local food banks in addition to the food and money collected along the way. Since its launch in 1999, the Holiday Train program has raised close to 213 tons of food and over $1.5 million for North American food banks. The Canadian Association of Food Banks (CAFB) has reported parents, children and the working poor are among the approximately 800,000 people who turn to food banks for help each month.

Joining the Moffatts and CPR volunteers on board the Canadian Holiday Train to spread the spirit of the season and promote the invaluable role of food banks will be some of Canada's most well-known performers. A complete list of Holiday Train entertainers will be confirmed by mid November.

In Canada, the Holiday Train will embark on its two-week, cross-Canada journey on Sunday, Dec05 from St. Therese, Quebec, finishing up in Port Moody, B.C., on Dec19.

John Cowan, Beverley Mahood headline 2004 CPR U.S. Holiday Train

Midwestern-born John Cowan, billed as the ``Voice of New Grass,'' and Canadian singer/songwriter Beverley Mahood will share a Canadian Pacific Railway boxcar stage for the 2004 U.S. Holiday Train.

This is the sixth year that CPR's Holiday Train will be taking the rails to raise cash, food and awareness for hunger relief efforts in North America. This December, two freight trains, each decorated with thousands of festive lights, will visit more than 25 locations in the U.S. Northeast and Midwest and 50 Canadian communities. Both trains will be staging live holiday music shows.

In the U.S., the Holiday Train will embark on its two-week journey Dec01 in Scranton, PA, finishing Dec16 in Minot, ND. Major Midwest stops include the Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis-St. Paul areas.

CPR will donate more than $225,000 (Cdn) to local food banks in addition to the food and money collected along the way. Since its beginning in 1999, the Holiday Train program has raised close to 213 tons of food and more than $1.5 million (Cdn) for North American food banks.

An Indiana native who lives in Nashville, TN, John Cowan is the former lead vocalist and bass player for New Grass Revival. The two-time Grammy nominee's most recent release, `'Always Take Me Back'' on Sugar Hill Records, reached No. 3 on the Americana charts. Now backed by an acoustic quartet, John is working on a studio record that is an extension of his work with New Grass Revival with a new-millennium twist

Beverley Mahood tours with the David Foster-produced country trio, LACE, as well as solo. She is a Juno Award winner, Canada's equivalent of a Grammy. She has appeared in numerous television specials, including TSN'S "Off the Record," Academy of Country Music Awards, CMT Dramas and a commercial for Hardee's. Most recently, Beverley wrote, "Come to Me," for Celine Dion's upcoming album. Add this to a TV hosting position in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a newly released solo album, "Moody Blue," and you have a well-rounded career.

Both Beverley and John are Holiday Train veterans.

Joining them and CPR volunteers on board the U.S. Holiday Train will be the other four members of the John Cowan Band. A complete list of Holiday Train entertainers will be confirmed next month.
