We received the following information from Amtrak West today, Friday, August 25, 2000: There are no plans to close nor change service levels at the Santa Ana, Solana Beach nor Anaheim Amtrak stations along the Pacific Surfliner route. As an ongoing process, service levels are always under review for all the stations along the route, but no plan has been put forth to eliminate service to Santa Ana, Solana Beach nor Anaheim. There have been rumors that Amtrak West is considering the closure or reduction of service to Santa Ana, Solana Beach and Anaheim. There is even a rumor that a memo has been circulating within Amtrak West to this effect. Amtrak West emphatically denies that there has been discussion regarding the closure of these stations and there have been no memos regarding such closures. To the contrary, service levels have been expanded and more stops have been added to the route of the Pacific Surfliner over the last few years including: Goleta, Lompoc-Surf, Guadalupe and Grover Beach. Summer service has been added to San Clemente Pier and additional round-trips were added between Los Angeles and San Diego to handle the increased demand for transporation to the Del Mar Races (via the Solana Beach Station).
