Photos Of Scenery Along The Route Of
The Amtrak California Zephyr

These photos are just a tiny sample of the scenery along the route of the Amtrak California Zephyr. Most of the grand scenery along the route is not included. This trip was planned to be pure relaxation for my wife and I. The plan was to not worry about doing a travelogue or taking any photos, but I did manage to find a camera in my hand from time to time. So, these are the photos that resulted from that trip! View from the Woodfin Suites Hotel in Emeryville, directly across from the Amtrak Emeryville Station. If you get a room on the other side of the hotel that is on the fourth floor or above, such as Room 521, you will have a clear view of the station platform and the tracks and trains that run through the station.

My wife, Barbara. Unfortunately, there is no travelogue to go with these photos. Just about the only time that I am inspired to write a travelogue is when I'm traveling alone on the train. When I travel alone, I just have to tell someone about my rail travel experience as it happens, thus I write my travelogues.

Reno and Sparks, Nevada, including some photos of snowplow trains.

It started to rain a bit while we continued to head east through Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

No further photos were taken until I was on my way home from Denver, Colorado, heading west on the Amtrak California Zephyr.

Now heading west on the Amtrak California Zephyr. The above photos were taken after the train arrived a bit early at its service stop at Grand Junction, Colorado. My friend, Ron Carpenter, is in one of the above photos. Ron traveled on the train with me as we returned west from Denver, Colorado.

Heading west through Reno, Nevada, including some photos of the construction work on the shoefly tracks in Reno. A ditch is being dug so that train traffic through Reno will no longer block auto traffic. The Conductor said that the Amtrak California Zephyr will start using the temporary shoefly tracks within a couple of weeks so that construction can begin on the ditch. A new temporary platform is also being built for the Amtrak Reno Station. Completion of the ditch is scheduled for 2006.
