We receive over a thousand emails per day. Though a lot of them are just spam, a large number are also legitimate emails. We use automatic filters to attempt to find the most important and urgent of them. Unfortunately it is not possible to answer all of the emails we receive. Submitting a rail travelogue:

We very much appreciate the e-mail that we receive from the visitors to our web sites, especially the large number of messages of support for our efforts. Please keep those cards and letters coming! Many of you send us brief notes about your recent rail travels. We very much enjoy reading those, especially when we hear that you were inspired by writings and photos posted on our web sites. If you have posted a travelogue to a web site, please just e-mail us the specific URL (web address) of your travelogue and not the travelogue itself. We'll post a link to your travelogue fairly quickly! We do need the specific URL of the travelogue and not just the URL of the web site where it is posted. If you haven't posted it anywhere, We'd prefer that you send us your travelogue inside the body of an e-mail message rather than as a word document or an attachment. Due to the possibility of viruses attached to e-mail, your travelogue might never be posted if you send it to us as an attachment. Please be very very patient. Due to our lack of staffing, it can sometimes take months before travelogues sent to us get posted. That is why it is best to post your travelogue to a web site yourself and then just send us a URL to your travelogue. This is probably the most common request that we get. We would love nothing more than to sit down with each of you and spend hours suggesting which route you should take and why, what you will see along the way, what to expect, what to watch out for, what we liked and didn't like about our rail journeys along this route, and much more. That isn't possible for us to do, but over the last few years we have come to know rail tour and travel companies that really know their business. They will be able to take the time to help you with your rail travel plans and they do have the expertise and resources to take care of your travel desires.

I found a mistake on one of the web pages.

Many of you have submitted corrections to errors on various pages on our web sites. Many of the web pages on our servers are composed using an old style text editor that does not have a built-in spell checker. Though we try to check for spelling errors, it is possible that some to sneak through here and there. Also, from time to time, the content of a web page might be erroneous or misleading. We have saved all of the corrections that we have been sent. Some web pages have been corrected, but most of the corrections still need to be applied. Except for errors in critically important pages and pages that get a lot of visitors, applying these corrections has a low priority. The corrections will be made eventually, however. We frequently get e-mail from students in grade school through advanced degree programs asking us about one aspect or another about rail. Usually these questions are very general and would require a lengthy essay on our part for a proper answer. Unfortunately, the time just does not exist in our schedule to answer these questions one-on-one via e-mail. Instead, we suggest that students working on school projects should check the Rail Forums at RAILforum.com. Instead of getting just our perspective, students will probably get replies from many people involved and interested in various aspects of rail!

We've receive a number of permutations of messages like this, though not always in an easily understandable form of the English language. I have a suggestion of where to place a RailCam.

We have a VERY limited budget for new RailCams and we already have a number of locations on our waiting list. However, if you wish to set up a RailCam yourself, cover all expenses and take care of the equipment yourself, we will be happy to host and promote your RailCam images! The cost of the equipment that we recommend is about $1000, but it includes one high-resolution day/night webcam with the ability to expand up to 8 cameras. If you want us to cover the cost of the equipment, then you will have to get on our waiting list. To be on the waiting list, the location with a view of the rails has to be one that you yourself own or rent and it has to have easy access to electricity and the internet. If you are selected from the waiting list, we'll cover the cost of the equipment and walk you through the setup, but you will have to cover the cost of internet access and electricity. The equipment doesn't use much electricity and it can piggy-back on your existing internet connection since it doesn't take much bandwidth.
