There are many ways to connect to the Amtrak Southwest Chief to reach the Depot Inn & Suites in La Plata, Missouri. Your best bet is just to click here to go to Amtrak's website, enter the city nearest your home under "Departs" and type "LAP" (for La Plata, MO) under "Arrives." The Amtrak website will automatically figure out a route for your train travel.
STARTING FROM SOME PARTS OF ARIZONA or NEW MEXICO:
If you are within driving distnace of any of the following cities in New Mexico: Raton, Las Vegas, Lamy, Albuquerque, Gallup; or any of the following cities in Arizona: Winslow, Flagstaff or Williams Junction; then click here for directions of how to get to La Plata from the Southwest. The Amtrak Southwest Chief offers direct service from all those cities directly to La Plata, Missouri. If you are not within driving distance of any of those cities, see the next sections.

STARTING FROM OTHER PARTS OF ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO, TEXAS, or LOUISIANA:
Take the Amtrak Sunset Limited to San Antonio and then change trains to the northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle. Take the northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle to Springfield, Illinois, and then about a 2 hour Amtrak connecting bus ride from Springfield to Galesburg. At Galesburg, Illinois, you will connect with the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief to La Plata, Missouri.
STARTING FROM ARKANSAS or EASTERN MISSOURI:
Take the northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle to Springfield, Illinois, and then about a 2 hour Amtrak connecting bus ride from Springfield to Galesburg. At Galesburg, Illinois, you will connect with the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief to La Plata, Missouri.
STARTING FROM MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA, GEORGIA or FLORIDA:
Normally, you could take the westbound Amtrak Sunset Limited to San Antonio and follow the same route as listed above. However, service between Florida and Louisiana was disrupted by Hurricane Katrina and has not been reinstituted since. Check with Amtrak from time to time to see when this service will be restored. In the meantime, use the Amtrak.com website to obtain an alternate Amtrak route to La Plata, Missouri ("LAP") of which there are many!
