April 25 - May 3, 2007 - Chris Guenzler Millionth Rail Mile: Report & Photos by Carl Morrison.
Chris Guenzler and I met through my association with Steve Grande, and Ray Burns when I started writing for TrainWeb. Chris had written many rail travelogues for TrainWeb, which I had read online, but I had never met him. One day, when I was in the TrainWeb office turning in a story, when the TrainWeb office was on the 2nd floor of the Fullerton Santa Fe Amtrak Station, Chris quickly came in to drop off a story and I met him. The above million rail miles include rail travel on Amtrak, commuter routes, tourist railways, and other special rail trips
including rare mileage. As far as we know, Chris Gunezler may have been the first private passenger to travel over one
million miles by rail in the United States. Naturally there are railroad staff such as Engineers, Conductors, and other
professional railroad staff that have traveled more than one million rail miles as part of their day to day job. There
might even be commuters who have traveled over one million miles by rail, but that would be over the same trackage again
and again to and from work rather than on every Amtrak route, most commuter routes, most of the tourist railways, and
many other tracks throughout the United States.
The below rail trip celebrates Chris Guenzler reaching travel of One Million miles just on Amtrak.
Chris has traveled on every Amtrak route in the United States, including many routes that no longer exist.
April 7, 2008 - : Photo Travelogue by Dutch Myers.
This is a photo travelogue of my Amtrak travel from Pennsylvania to La Plata, Missouri to attend Chris Guenzler's celebration of a million miles traveled by rail. My journey was round trip on the same trains - the Pennsylvanian, the Capitol Limited and the Southwest Chief. Although this is a photo travelogue, some explanatory text is necessary. However, I will keep it to a minimum. Train photos from the same locations during the round trip are grouped together. Due to nighttime traveling, some locations have no photographs. The first section is on the Pennsylvanian from Harrisburg to Johnstown. The few Pittsburgh photos are placed in the Capitol Limited photos from Pittsburgh to Chicago. The Southwest Chief has...
