The Pacific Northwest includes Oregon, Washington and the Canadian province of Vancouver. This area is served by Amtrak trains 750 through 761 as well as the Amtrak Coast Starlight (trains 11 and 14). Prior to 1998, the train that provided service between Seattle and Vancouver was called the Mount Baker International and the train that provided service between Seattle and Portland was called the Mount Adams. The Amtrak Empire Builder is also included since it serves Seattle, Portland, Spokane and other cities in Oregon and Washington in the Pacific Northwest.
Below are three photographs and a video clip of an F40 that has been modified to be used as a Cab Control Car with the new Talgo trainsets used on the Amtrak Cascades. Notice it has been painted in the green and brown color scheme of the Cascades and uses a 5 digit number instead of the normal 3 digit F40 numbers. There are no roll-up baggage doors on the F40 which indicates that it has not been modified into a combo Cab Control / Baggage "Cabbage" car. However, the fuel tanks have been removed which indicates that the engine has also probably been removed and this F40 shell is likely just to function as a Cab Control Car in the push-pull operation of the Amtrak Cascades.
There three photographs and one video clip were taken as the F40 was pulled by the Amtrak Southwest Chief through the Fullerton Santa Fe Depot on Saturday, February 27, 1999 at 7:30 AM.
