Amtrak Superliner Passenger Train Accommodations, including photographs and detailed descriptions of seats, rooms, train cars and services.
Above are the 2 seats in the Special Bedroom. This configuration is really identical to that in the Economy Bedroom. The seats might look like they are closer together, but that is only an illusion created by the rest of the Special Bedroom being so large and empty.
Above you can see the space set aside for a wheelchair. A wheelchair can be locked to the wall so that a person can remain in their wheelchair during travel if they wish. The lock and release mechanism is within easy reach of the person in the wheelchair so they can operate it themself if they wish. However, a car attendant and other Amtrak personell are always available to help people with special mobility requirements.
You can see that everything in the Special Bedroom has been placed within the reach of a person in a wheelchair. The coat hanger hooks have been mounted lower. The air-conditioning/heating controls and vent lever have been placed within reach also, as shown in the photo.
Above you can see the toilet and sink in the Special Bedroom. It has been totally designed to be used by a person in a wheelchair. The sink has also been placed lower to be within easy reach. The toilet and sink are seperated from the rest of the Special Bedroom by a curtain. A wheelchair will fit within the restroom side of the curtain when it is closed. For those with limited mobility but not in a wheelchair, they can use either this toilet in the Special Bedroom or the public toilet located immediately outside the door of the Special Bedroom.
